Copper Kettle is a community partnership working with many other groups, associations and non-profits on SSI. A not-for-profit garden helps with food programs on the island. Copper Kettle is a grass-roots group and is supported solely by islanders for the sake of those less fortunate who live here.

WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO

Copper Kettle Community Partnership is working to find solutions to end homelessness on Salt Spring Island. Salt Spring has the highest per capita rate of homelessness in Canada due to the lack of new affordable housing projects.

OUR DIRECTIVES

  • Develop a housing registry

  • Start a community investment fund

  • Create a reservoir of affordable homes

  • Initiate a Wagon Wheel Project

  • Research trailer stock on Salt Spring Island

  • Research and attract homeowners who want to help – ie: suites, cabins, rooms

  • Develop a Trades/Tradesperson Registry

  • Form a powerful partnership of present and future housing providers to consult and lobby all governments

  • Start a tent city for homeless on SSI

  • Start building 100 sq. ft. cottages

  • Design water reservoirs, catchment and super-efficient septic systems

  • Establish a core of volunteers

  • Love AND trust of each other
